Elections in Rockville are non-partisan. To be eligible to run for elected office, candidates must be at least 18 years old and be a registered voter living within Rockville city limits for at least one year immediately preceding the election.

How to Run for Elected Office
Submit a Nomination Petition
A candidate must be nominated using a Mayor Nomination Petition or Councilmember Nomination Petition. The petition must be signed by at least 100 registered voters who live within Rockville city limits and be filed with the Board of Supervisors of Elections at least 60 calendar days before the election.

Download the candidate information election packet for the 2023 election or pick up a hardcopy at the Office of the City Clerk/Director of Council Operations at Rockville City Hall between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday-Friday.

Attend Candidate and Treasurer Campaign Finance Reports Training
Candidates and treasurers are required to attend a training conducted by the Board of Supervisors of Elections.
Submit a Candidate Statement
All candidates must submit a candidate statement, color headshot, and contact information to the Communications and Community Engagement Department at cce@rockvillemd.gov.
