Join Rockville’s Mayor and Council for this annual ceremony honoring the men and women who served in the nation’s armed forces. American Legion Post 86 will lead the wreath-laying ceremony, and its honor guard will present a rifle salute.

Due to forecasted high winds and low temperatures, Rockville’s Veterans Day Ceremony scheduled for November 11 at 11 a.m. has moved to the Rockville Senior Center located at 1150 Carnation Dr, Rockville, MD 20850.

Guest Speaker: Magda J. Brown

Magda J. Brown is a seasoned federal investigator and Air National Guard senior airman with over 15 years of experience in civil rights investigations and compliance. Bilingual in Spanish and English, she excels in leading complex investigations, negotiating settlements and fostering interagency partnerships. She is pursuing a doctorate in public administration and is dedicated to advancing policy and leadership expertise.

As a senior airman, she manages human resources operations and delivers training, earning the Air Force’s Air and Space Achievement Medal in 2024. She holds a master’s degree in negotiations and conflict resolution, a master’s in architecture and urban planning, an Air Force associate’s degree in human resources management, and certifications in mediation and investigative techniques.

At the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, she serves as an Equal Employment Opportunity specialist, conducting investigations and shaping compliance standards. Previously, at the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, she achieved a 90% conciliation success rate in discrimination cases. Her roles at the U.S. Department of Labor and National Labor Relations Board earned recognition for resolving violations.

She founded Emaki’s Home Arts Foundation, providing art therapy to children, and volunteers at the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum. She serves as the director of Area 32 for Toastmasters, vice president of education for HUD Toastmasters and chief of staff for HUD’s Veterans Affinity Group.
