America’s 250th anniversary offers the City of Rockville an opportunity to honor the resilience and contributions of all people who have shaped the nation while reaffirming a shared commitment to justice, belonging, and full civic participation for every resident.

On Jan. 5, 2026, the Mayor and Council proclaimed July 4, 2026 as the 250th Anniversary of America in Rockville, Maryland, recognizing the complexity of our nation’s history and affirming Rockville’s ongoing commitment to a strong and inclusive future.

Rockville celebrates America’s 250th anniversary with events throughout the year.

Rockville Town Center will shine with patriotic pride as USA flags adorn the streets in honor of America’s 250th celebration.

Join the City of Rockville at Millennium Garden Park at 9 a.m. for a commemorative tree planting celebrating Arbor Day and America’s 250th anniversary.

Peerless Rockville’s pictorial exhibit “Rockville 250: Our American Story” marks two and half centuries of the United States and Montgomery County, tracing American history as it happened in Rockville. Learn how Rockville grew with the nation, from its revolutionary days, through the antebellum era of slavery and fight for emancipation, into the mid-century baby boom with suburbanization, to become today’s modern and diverse 21st century city. This place-based exhibit highlights the sites and people that reflect American history in Rockville.

The exhibit opens Wednesday, May 13 in the historic Red Brick Courthouse. A reception will be held 4 – 6 p.m., Wednesday, May 20. Exhibit hours are Wednesday – Friday, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Special weekend hours are Saturdays, May 30, June 27, July 25, and Aug. 29, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Hometown Holidays will celebrate a historic milestone with roving entertainers, patriotic décor, USA-themed giveaways, and a powerful live military band performance.

As part of the America250 celebration, the Memorial Day Ceremony and Parade will be enhanced with roving entertainment and patriotic giveaways in addition to the annual ceremony, musical tribute to America, and parade.

As part of the America250 celebration, the Suds and Soles 5k will be enhanced with patriotic giveaways and décor.

Celebrate Independence Day in spectacular fashion with an enhanced fireworks display honoring America’s 250th birthday, plus patriotic décor and special giveaways to mark the occasion.

A special time capsule will be buried during Rocktobierfest in honor of America’s 250th anniversary, preserving memories, Rockville’s history, and messages for future generations.
