About Classes and Lessons at Rockville Swim and Fitness Center

Get active and have fun with fitness classes, personal training, and swimming lessons at the Rockville Swim and Fitness Center. With programs for all ages and fitness levels, there are options for everyone, from learning to swim to building strength and improving overall fitness.

Classes and Lessons 

Ages 6 months to teens

Swim lessons are available for children of all ages and skill levels, from introductory lessons for infants and young swimmers through swim team preparation. Guardian-and-child classes help young swimmers build confidence and learn basic swimming skills.

Ages 14 and older

Improve your swimming skills, refine your technique, or learn a new stroke with adult swim lessons. Instruction is tailored to your swimming level, with four levels available to accommodate swimmers from beginners to more experienced participants.

Current wait time: There is currently an estimated eight-month wait to be paired with an instructor. Wait times vary based on staff and pool availability and the volume of requests received.

Private swim lessons provide one-on-one instruction for swimmers of all skill levels. Two-person sessions are also available.

Stay active with in-person and virtual fitness classes, including aerobics, Zumba, sculpting, yoga, kickboxing, and more. Classes are offered for a range of fitness levels, with options to help you build strength, improve fitness, and stay active.

Ages 16 and older

Get active in the pool with water fitness classes led by trained instructors. Classes include water aerobics, swim technique, and other pool-based workouts for a range of fitness levels.

Training for a triathlon? USA Triathlon-certified coaches can help you develop your swimming skills and prepare for competition.

Training and Other Programs

Ages vary

Work with a certified trainer to develop a personalized workout plan based on your fitness level, lifestyle, and goals. Personal training is available for individuals or two people training together.

Personal training can include:

  • Fitness assessments
  • Strength and flexibility training
  • Cardiovascular conditioning
  • Sport-specific training
  • Fitness Center equipment training

Equipment training: First-time clients can receive a 30-minute equipment tutorial for $15. The fee includes Fitness Center use for non-members.

Ages and prerequisites vary

American Red Cross certification courses are offered year-round at the Rockville Swim and Fitness Center, including:

  • Lifeguard Training
  • Water Safety Instructor Training
  • CPR/AED and First Aid Training

Stand-alone CPR/AED and First Aid courses are also available for participants who do not need lifeguard certification.

The Rockville Rays are the summer swim team at Rockville Swim and Fitness Center, operated through a partnership between the Recreation and Parks Department and the Rockville Rays Parents group.

Registration for the 2026 summer season opens Wednesday, April 1 for City of Rockville residents and Friday, April 3 for general registration. Use our address finder at rockvillemd.gov/services to determine if you live within Rockville city limits.

Two payments are required:

Rockville Rays Parents

  • $100 per family

City of Rockville (Course #39951)

  • RSFC member: $160 per swimmer
  • Non-member: $315 per swimmer

To receive the member rate, the swimmer must have an active aquatics or full facility membership that covers the entire swim season. 25-punch passes do not qualify. Visit the Memberships page for more information.

How to Register

Program registration fees include access to the program area (pool or classroom) during your scheduled class time, as well as time needed to use the locker room. If you want to use the pools, whirlpool, or fitness room before or after class, you must pay the facility’s daily admission fee or scan your membership card. Facility members receive discounts on select aquatics classes. Visit the Memberships page for more information.

Financial Assistance and Accessibility

The City of Rockville believes everyone should have the opportunity to participate in recreation programs, regardless of income. City residents may qualify for recreation financial assistance programs offered by the Recreation and Parks Department.

Rockville Recreation and Parks welcomes individuals with disabilities to participate in programs and use its facilities. If you need an ADA reasonable accommodation, please contact the Rockville Swim and Fitness Center or MD Relay 711 before your program begins. Advance notice is needed to coordinate and provide accommodations.
